The Five
Remembering the five lives taken.
From 1894 until 1911, five Black men were lynched in Anderson County, South Carolina. They were fathers, sons, brothers, and neighbors. They were human beings. Their lives mattered. Their stories will never be forgotten.

THEIR STORIES. OUR RESPONSIBILITY.
We share their names and stories so that truth is not buried, history is not erased, and future generations can learn, reflect, and build a more just and beloved community.
"The end is reconciliation; the end is redemption; the end is the creation of the Beloved Community."
— Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
